Ryan Steensma Won Multiple Decorations for His Ser in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Serving in the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve, Ryan Steensma earned a Jump Wings parachutist badge, won the Humanitarian Service Medal, and received such ribbons as the National Defense Service Ribbon and those recognizing his participation in campaigns in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Southwest Asia. In this time, Ryan Steensma also met the qualifications for infantry duty in the special operations capable Marine Expeditionary Unit and occupied positions with the Marine Criminal Investigations Division and Military Police Force.

Aside from his military service, Ryan Steensma spent the mid-90s preserving the safety of Jefferson County, Kentucky, residents as a deputy sheriff for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. In this role, he trained recruits and served warrants on high-risk perpetrators. He subsequently joined the Sheriff’s Department in Kent County, Michigan, where he handled community policing and patrol duties. Along with earning the Life Saving Medal, he garnered several letters of commendation for important arrests in the county.

Mr. Steensma recently earned a bachelor of science from the Ohio State University. There, he studied political science and history. Mr. Steensma attended the University of Louisville and Eastern Kentucky University where he studied criminal justice. Mr. Steensma was certified in two states as a law enforcement officer.
