Sean Flaherty
Engineering Student, Tutor, and Undergraduate Researcher in Lubbock, Texas
I'm a tinkerer, sometimes too much for my own good - I always change things from the defaults, and occasionally break everything.
I love learning how things work and seeing something I made work, whether it's getting a single LED to blink or watching an autonomous rover I programmed navigate a course successfully. I especially enjoy knowing something I made, even a shell script, is useful to someone. So I can get the most out of the world of computing and push the boundaries of the field, I'm working on degrees in Mathematics and Computer Engineering.
My latest research experience involved implementing neural network models to develop a probabilistic predictive model of dust storm events in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico.
I also work as a tutor for the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Texas Tech. I've worked in introductory classes teaching MATLAB and C++, and hopefully I've given our department some better programmers.
Outside of school and work, I'm a GNU/Linux power-user, pen spinner, free software advocate, and coffee enthusiast.
