Saad Bin Tariq founded Better Devices in 2023 after spending a decade building the kinds of products that break in interesting ways; smart locks, driverless vehicles, wireless IoT devices and learning exactly where hardware programmes go wrong.

He is an electrical engineer by training, with a Master of Science in Electrical and Communications Engineering from the Technical University of Munich and an Honours degree in Technology Management from the Centre for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM).

Before founding Better Devices, Saad spent over two and a half years at Vay, a Berlin-based driverless vehicle company, where he worked across vehicle control architecture, safety concepts, and system design for a production-grade autonomous vehicle programme. Before that, he was part of the founding engineering team at nello.io, where he contributed to the market launch of a wireless IoT device with complex communication topologies from circuit design through embedded software and rapid prototyping.

That career path from founding-team embedded engineer to system architect on autonomous vehicles shaped a specific point of view: that the hardest problems in hardware are not purely technical. They are organisational. Context lost at handovers. Assumptions that travel silently from PoC to DVT. Engineering teams that are excellent in isolation but lack the specialist depth a programme needs at a critical moment.
