Sadev Liyanage

Sadev Lometh Liyanage is a young Sri Lankan writer, lyricist, editor, performer, and creative communicator based in New Zealand.

Born in Colombo and raised in Kelaniya, Sadev completed his early education at Sri Dharmaloka College, Kelaniya, before moving to New Zealand. He currently studies at Avondale College.

Sadev is involved in journalism, creative writing, poetry, songwriting, digital media, performing arts, and storytelling. His interests include society, culture, history, freedom, relationships, and contemporary issues.

Writing and Journalism

Sadev has contributed articles to Sri Lankan newspapers and digital publications including Divaina, Monara, Silumina, Radical Digital Magazine, and Aura Digital Magazine. His writing covers social, cultural, historical, international, and contemporary topics.

He also publishes creative and longer-form work on Medium and Substack, developing his experience in digital publishing and reaching wider online audiences.

Sadev is a former Assistant Operations Manager at Radical Digital Magazine, where he gained experience in content development, editorial work, proofreading, reviewing articles, communicating with contributors, and coordinating writers.

Creative Writing and Music

Sadev writes poetry, short stories, and creative pieces in both Sinhala and English. His creative work explores themes including love, freedom, identity, relationships, resilience, and overcoming adversity.

As a lyricist and songwriter, he has written the original song “සුරලියේ (Suraliye)” and has also created “Amin,” an original English-language song reflecting his interest in romantic songwriting and emotional storytelling.

Collaboration and Social Awareness

Sadev has collaborated with the Afghan Women's Global Association, contributing to creative and awareness-related work connected with Afghan women and issues including freedom, resilience, and social challenges.

Performing Arts

Sadev is also interested in acting, comedy, stage performance, and live storytelling. Through creative arts programmes including Mixit, he has explored performance, music, art, collaboration, and self-expression.

Family

Sadev comes from a family with connections to education and media. His mother, Sewwandi Jayakody, works as a school library assistant, while his father, Shanaka Liyanage, is an Assistant General Manager at Monara Newspapers. He is also related to Sisira Jayakody, a Sri Lankan politician who has served in government.

Currently based in New Zealand, Sadev combines his education with his involvement in writing, journalism, digital media, music, performance, and creative storytelling.
