Sadhana Chalasani

Sadhana Chalasani is not your typical high school student. She does have many of the accomplishments of a typical high achieving millennial. She maintains a 3.8 GPA while taking a most academically rigorous class schedule that includes six AP classes, and a senior seminar and project.

She also has a full schedule of impressive extra-curricular clubs that include such a wide variety of activities as the girls' varsity tennis team, the Model United Nations, classical Indian kuchipudi dance, and classical piano. However, where Sadhana differs from even the most accomplished of her peers is in her proactive efforts to be a staunch health advocate, even at such a young age.

Sadhana Chalasani Promotes Health Education

As a future doctor, Sadhana is already passionate about making sure people are educated about various health risks. She believes that the greater awareness there is about health issues, the better equipped people are to either prevent them or handle them. They can also then help spread the world to others. Sadhana has taken a number of steps to promote awareness of various diseases.

Breast Cancer Awareness

She founded her high school's local Pink Ribbon Club, sponsored by the Pink Ribbon Club Foundation. While breast cancer among teenage girls is rare, Sadhana believes it's important to educate high schoolers on this disease so they begin healthy habits early.

The club is particularly focused on informing students on the risk factors of breast cancer. However, it also wants to educate people about the more unusual types of breast cancer, including the fact that men can get it as well. The club also gets out into the local community, conducting events to raise money to donate to cancer research.

AIDS Awareness

Sadhana has also started local groups to promote AIDS awareness and contribute to the fight against this deadly disease. The groups she's started have worked directly with AIDS patients and charities to provide support and services to those most in need.
