Sahar Pazirandeh
Before my tongue knew how to form my first word I was silenced. My thoughts, wardrobe and existence as a girl were discounted, shamed and shushed. In my early life I did not have the emotional vocabulary to release the negative energy I was digesting in revolutionary Iran.
In the third grade my family uprooted to the States...Denver, Colorado, to be exact. The land of the free. A new home where I could listen to music, play outside, and wear more than grey, black and navy. The confines of my chador were extinct. The tradeoff was erasing my life up to that point. My native tongue of Farsi, the main way I communicated, perished; along with every-other facet that had been my daily life for almost 9 years, including my father. Enduring my new home became harder than surviving the Iran-Iraq war.
Living, understanding and overcoming the effects of these experiences on my automatic reaction towards myself, relationships, and work took me over 15 years, 3 states, 1 island, several failed attempts at partnership and suicide. I even created a company (in one the most challenging places in the world, New York) to fill the void of being literally and figuratively abandoned by my parents. Although that was one of the most difficult times in my life, it also enriched it the most, and the work I do with Free Your Star Foundation will always be a part of my purpose and vision.
I used to resent the life I was given, the country I was born in and the one I was brought to. Today, I am filled with gratitude for all of the hardships I’ve encountered. I adore all of my emotions, now that I have met them, learned their language, and know they are gifts, not burdens.
Finding your voice is not a one-size-fits-all remedy. Trust me, I have tried countless drug cocktails, prescribed and not, saw a slew of therapist--on a daily basis, meditated, stood on my head, danced, drank, moved (that’s just geography) and dove into new relationships. We all have different triggers and automatic thought patterns. So, we all need a different fix.
I want to share with you how I found the right remedy, a perfect and realistic way of living that helped me end the annoying cycle of making decisions from an unsure and insecure space. Guiding you to form daily habits that help you learn how to tune-in and listen to yourself. From this serene place we will build a vocabulary unique to your personality.
