Helping others and volunteering is what I try to do when I have some spare time. In high school when I wouldn't have sport practices/events to attend, after school mainly consisted of doing various volunteer projects. I did everything from help set up for school events, ran the concessions stands at home basketball games, and help out the elementary library shelve books, etc. Sure, it all begin with incentives (extra credit/resume booster), but after I was done, the satisfaction and the many thank-you's I received made it all worthwhile.
Since I started working the summer after graduation, I haven't had much time go out and do volunteering activities. That was until I signed-up for IMPACT (Alternative Break). IMPACT is a student-organization at UGA that goes to various cities around the east coast each with a different service project. This past winter break, I was fortunate to go to Fort Meyers, FL and work with environmental awareness. We would work everyday from 6am to about 3pm, doing hard labor. The local volunteers could not have stress how glad they were to have us volunteer. It was an experience that I would do all over again.
