Saige Pires-Tavares

Hello There!
My name is Saige Pires-Tavares. I am a 21 year old student at Southern New Hampshire University where I am working on a degree in Health Promotion, with hopes of obtaining my Master’s in Public Health.

I began my college career in the fall of 2011, fresh out of high school. I attended traditional face to face classes for my first year, which were alright, but for some reason I just wasn’t feeling 100% about them. It wasn’t until a few months later that I realized it was due to my anxiety disorder. I constantly felt nervous, distracted and uncomfortable which resulted in me not retaining all of the information my professor was trying to relay. Luckily, while choosing classes for an upcoming semester, I stumbled upon the option of a hybrid course. I figured, "hey, why not?" a class where I only have to attend once a week and the rest of the work at home online? Sounds perfect! I went through the semester taking that hybrid course and enjoyed it so much that the next semester I decided to do the majority of my classes online rather than on campus! I found that receiving my education via the internet was something that worked very well for me seeing as how I suffer from anxiety and always had trouble keeping focused in the traditional classroom setting.

Once graduated from community college, I began looking into Bachelor's degrees that were fully online, which is how I ended up here at SNHU! Although there are several differences between the traditional classes and online classes, which are often difficult to overcome, I am much happier and more successful completing my education on the internet.

My goal, as an advocate for online schooling, is to spread the word of the various benefits of getting an education over the internet, as well as helping prospective student navigate through the few challenges we face as distance learners. Thankfully, through my blog, "Constantly Connected: Life of an Online Student," I can do just that!

Please follow me through this journey as I create my first blog and work to provide great tips and tricks for becoming a successful online student!

Thank you,
Saige
