Salvador Rivera-Casiano
Salvador Rivera-Casiano inherit his passion for teaching music from his father Salvador Rivera-Vega, a now retired Professor of Music Education and Saxophone at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, San Germán Campus. He holds undergraduate degrees in Intrumental Music Education & Piano from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. He also studied Science in Physics at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Campus. In addition, he holds a Master of Music degree in Music Theory and Cognition from Northwestern University, prestigious Bienen School of Music, Evanston, Il. He has taught Instrumental music for a year in Lajas, Puerto Rico and then at the Chicago Public Schools for 2 years before relocating to Maryland in 2001. Ever since he has taught Instrumental, Choral and theory courses at the Montgomery County Public Schools. He has served as the Residence Composer & Theory Instructor for the Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra-Gaithersburg, Md and the Debut Orchestra-Anaheim, Ca. Ever since 2011, he has been part of the rehearsal staff at the Peabody Childrens Choir at the Howard County Campus. He is currently teaching music and choir director at the Francis Scott Key Middle School in SIlver Spring, Md, where he has nurture the choir program from 18 students in 2006 to 148 in 2015. Through the years he has served as music director, his ensembles have been awarded Superior and Excellent scores at several music festival and competitions in Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. As a clarinet performer, he forms part of the Maryland Band Directors Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Vincent Patterson.
