Dr Sam Chapman is the Chief Innovation Officer and founder of The Floow Limited and founder and non-exec director of Knowledge Now Limited. Before his current entrepreneurial focus Sam's worked in the academic domain in the University of Sheffield where he focused upon state of the art approaches for large scale knowledge management and information integration in complex domains. He has managed successful research projects in a variety of specialised domains such as high level procurement, aerospace engineering, phylogenetics, crop science, telematics and emergency response. Sam has published more than 35 papers in international conferences, books and journals and has extensive experience in giving technical presentations and talks. His publications and areas of expertise cover a broad range of technical ICT areas such as, knowledge management, multimodal systems, semantic technologies, natural language processing, information retrieval, information visualisation and machine learning. As well as a technical and academic approach Sam has a keen interest in practical application of technology. His founded companies: Knowledge Now Limited (2007) employ a range of experts in the Sheffield region focusing work upon Information technology support for large scale events and organisations. The Floow Limited is a rapidly growing company now with employees spanning multiple countries and blue chip client work covering 4 continents. The Floow focus upon telematics for large scale insurance and fleet customers. Sam has also worked as principal investigator, coordinator or senior technical lead on a number of high impact collaborative research projects such as GrassMargins, TRIDS, Grassportal, Dot.Kom, AKT, XMedia, Samulet, SILOET, Archaeotools, Histrodillo, IPAS, WeKnowIt, SmartProducts and EPPICS. Sam has a keen interest in applying new ideas, approaches and technology in real-world solutions.
