Hello all. I'm a PhD student, using machine-learning to understand the relationship between peptide function and primary sequence. my work mainly looks at two important types of peptide; antimicrobial peptides which inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, and placental homing peptides, which can be used to target drug delivery specifically to the placenta, improving the effectiveness of treatments used to keep the fetus healthy during pregnancy. in the future, I hope to use the experienced of machine-learning I have gained to enter the Big Data research field.
Outside of my work, I enjoy the theatre, and sport of any kind, although im not so much of an armchair spectator, I prefer live entertainment (mainly because of the atmosphere). I run for fun, to keep fit and to unwind. I used to play field hockey and should probably get myself back into a team at some point. I also like gardening. at present I only have a flower bed at my work place, but I'm looking to upgrade to an allotment plot. I have just started a lunchtime blog, which will focus on whatever really takes my fancy each lunchtime.
