the camera, like a sibling i never have, gave me the courage to come home and face my dad again after 5-6 years away from Vietnam and the house with 30 years of mental, emotional and physical disharmony

14 years ago when i first started filming my mum, i thought of her as the victim only. now i have learned that my dad is also a victim of history, politics, culture and my parents’ lack of communication skills and compatibilities for each other

i also asked my dad to film my mum without talking when she wakes up at 4am in the morning to prepare for her food stall, when he normally still sleeps – this results in romantic moments they have never shared before
