West Tisbury, Ma

After graduating from The University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in History, Sam Berlow moved east to work in the Boston Public Schools. During his five years as Program Coordinator for the Boston Compact, a citywide initiative linking high school students with the business community, Berlow developed education and job training programs for both his students and their parents. From this rewarding experience, Berlow moved on to become an Apple Education Sales Consultant, and in 1992 joined Font Bureau as General Manager.

Since relocating with his family to Martha’s Vineyard, Berlow continues his commitment to younger generations. As President of the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School’s Board of Trustees, he has brought awareness to a number of environmental issues, most notably by leading the charge to lessen carbon footprinting in public schools. Berlow has also dedicated his efforts to expanding recreational opportunities for the island’s youth, acting as Little League President, coaching high school basketball and spearheading a campaign to create safe environments for children to participate in sports.

Today, Berlow consults with designers, as well as continuing to oversee day-to-day operations at Font Bureau, where his mission remains to develop a studio “of the designers, for the designers and by the designers.”
