Samantha Sporer
Teacher in Memphis, Tennessee
Hey there, I’m Samantha. I’m a teacher living in Memphis, Tennessee. I am a fan of education, travel, art, activism, and volunteering. You can visit my school website with a click on the button above.
I have worked as a teacher, tutor, and volunteer in the U.S. and abroad. My favorite part of teaching is twofold: 1) connecting students and their families with resources in order to have agency over their lives, and 2) giving students the tools they need to become the person they want to be. Every year I grow as a teacher; I learn from my students, families, peers, and my community.
I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing organizations including DeNeuville Learning Center, TIRRC- TN Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition, Latino Memphis, and IEI- Intensive English for Internationals at The University of Memphis. Supporting the work that these organizations continue to do for our community and beyond remains an indivisible part of who I am and inspires my philosophy of life and teaching.
Outside of teaching, art is an important part of my life. I have a background in theatre, design, and drawing. With art, I am relaxed and rejuvenated. I love working with pen and gouache, specifically. I have my own studio where I can focus and display my art and art influences. Some of my favorite artists include Egon Schiele, Louise Bourgeois, Lucian Freud, and Sol LeWitt. I am currently working on a series that I hope to display in a show later next year.
I recently got married to a brilliant person who is an engineer, musician, and hunter. Traveling is a passion we both share and we spent two weeks in France and Spain for our honeymoon. Including France and Spain, I have traveled to ten countries. Each summer break I see as an opportunity to explore and make connections with people and places.
I want to continue to update this page with news about teaching, my students, my art, and life. I want this page to serve as an example to my students of how to create a positive online profile. Finally, I want this page to be a place where teachers, students, families, and my community can get to know who I am.
