My name is Samantha Strong, and I am an ethicist.

I am also a health policy wonk, Hoosier, cyclist, and writer. Originally from the midwest, I graduated from Indiana University as a Wells Scholar with a degree in bioethics and political and civic engagement.

Built on a foundation of philosophy and justice theory, my ethics training has transformed from abstract thought to concrete solutions ready for implementation. My areas of expertise include domestic health policies and welfare systems, pharmaceutical policy, environmental ethics, and the Affordable Care Act.

I was awarded the Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions Undergraduate Research Prize in Practical Ethics for my project titled, “Just Healthcare: a Rawlsian Liberal Egalitarian perspective on the accessibility and affordability of treatment for chronic Hepatitis C patients.” I completed research on the empirical relationship between prescription drug accessibility and patent protection, the ethical and political implications of naming the current geological epoch the “Anthropocene,” and the current state of vaccination policies in the United States.

I interned with Eric Meslin, Ph.D., founding director of the Center for Bioethics at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2015, where I completed systematic reviews on the state of Ethics Review Committees in Kenya, CRISPR gene-editing technology, and International Biogenetics. I also assisted in the grant application process.
