In my younger years, I never thought anything of how my parents reacted to the way I spoke to them; either they were offended by my bold comments or shocked at my competancy towards various subject matters. (More often than not, however, they were shocked, not always in a good way, with my remarksand were left just noting that I had a "smart mouth".)
By the time I got to school and was delegated writing challenges across my English classes, my teachers were always (pleasantly) surprised at my ability to write. It wasn't until my young adult years that I realized the power of communications had, particularly how my means of communicating impacted those around me.
It did not take me long to know I belonged in a communications career--not just out of supposed ability, but also led by a genuine passion for wanting to connect with others to encourage positive social change and greater understanding of the world we all live in.
I have been fortunate to attend Georgia State University in downtown Atlanta, where I have been given the opportunity to connect with countless diverse individuals, work with many diverse individuals in organizations that encourage professional development, develop public relations campaigns of my own and learn far beyond just sitting the classroom. I was given the oppotunity to intern in the Marketing Department of Cox Media Group Atlanta, which house four local radio stations, nationally syndicated radio shows, reporters for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution and Atlanta's WSB-TV Channel 2. It has been an amazing journey to grow as a media professional, but as a graduating senior, I realize how much more I still need to grow if I want to impact the world in the way that I know I am capable of one day doing.
