St. Thomas is one of the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean and half of the people who live in the Virgin Islands can be found on this island. The average temperature on the island is between 80 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit every day of the year and the summer months are rainier than any of the others.

The island itself is only 32 square miles, but there is quite a bit for everyone to do while they are on the island.

Here are 7 things that everyone can do while they are visiting St. Thomas:

99 Steps

Everyone should climb the infamous 99 Steps of the Charlotte Amalie so that they can see spectacular views of the Caribbean that cannot be seen anywhere else. These steps were built by the Danes in the middle of the 1700s and while the name states that there are 99 steps, in actuality, there are 103.

Skyride

The Skyride takes people 700 feet above the city for another opportunity to see the Caribbean from above the city’s skyline.

Blackbeard’s Castle

According to the legend, the infamous Blackbeard, or Edward Teach, used this tower to watch for ships that were entering the harbor. The Danes built this castle in 1679 and it was originally named Skytsborg.

Bluebeard’s Castle

There seems to have been many pirates in St. Thomas at one time and this castle is where Bluebeard supposedly locked away his wife. This fortress was built back in 1689.

Haangensen House

This house was built in 1827 and was the original home of the Danish banker, Hans Haagensen and his wife Sarah. They raised their nine children there.

French Heritage Museum

The locals have donated more than 275 artifacts to this museum in order to help commemorate the French influence on this island. The genealogies of local families are also stored on a computer inside the museum.

Frederick Lutheran Church

This church was built in 1844 and is the oldest Lutheran congregation in the Virgin Islands.

St. Thomas is rich in history and traditions and while many people find themselves on the island, because they were looking for warm weather, most of them will find themselves intrigued by what they see. On more than one occasion, a person has arrived in St. Thomas for vacation and ended up moving there permanently. This can happen to anyone who visits the island at any time.
