Sam Folin

Financial services executive Sam Folin, who most recently served as a Senior Consultant for Sequoia Sustainable Finance LLC, based in Philadelphia, has shared his expertise over the years. He has taught investor boot camps, played a key role in creating a successful revolving loan fund, and led church missions around the world. Sam Folin also filled several leadership positions and volunteered in the community and in church throughout his lengthy career in finance, setting an example for area youth and his peers.

In 1985, the financial-sector executive cofounded the Delaware Valley Community Reinvestment Fund, later renamed The Reinvestment Fund (TRF). Based on the successful model of the Institute for Community Economics in Massachusetts, the revolving loan fund established by Sam Folin and other leaders has thrived where similar funds have struggled or failed. Developing the community through investment and following rigorous lending standards, TRF has improved greater Philadelphia while accumulating funds totaling more than $1 billion. Sam Folin also credits the strong board and the former dynamic leadership of Jeremy Nowak, currently President of the William Penn Foundation, for its continuing success.

A devout Presbyterian and church elder, Sam Folin has led and participated in numerous missions focused on self-determination in overcoming the challenges of poverty. He has traveled worldwide on missions, including visits to Uganda, South Africa, and Haiti, as well as to the inner cities of America. In addition, Sam Folin has taught investment boot camps for eight years, educating participants on the best times to invest in the stock market and other basic knowledge of the markets and the investment opportunities they present. He holds a B.S. in Accounting and Economics from Wayne State University in Michigan.
