My name is Sam Kersey. I am the oldest of six children, and I grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. Throughout the entirety of my childhood my parents instilled in me a sense of wonder for the world. They always encouraged hands on learning and pushed us to get out and explore on our own. This helped me develop a serious passion for travel. I first traveled abroad on a family vacation at age 12, when we went to the Cayman Islands for Christmas. While this was by no means an intense experience of culture shock, it was still my first taste of international trip and it whet my appetite for the traveling that I would pursue a little later in my life.

When I was 16 years old I went to Mexico with my grandma’s church. We went to the Yucatán and drove to various small Mayan towns where the people did not even speak Spanish. This was my first experience with real culture shock and it was startling to say the least. I soon became addicted to this sensation and the process of discovery that venturing into a new country entailed. I loved the feeling of exploring a new place and finding out for myself if the things I had heard about it were true. Since going to Mexico as a teenager I have been all over the world. I’ve been to countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe and witnessed extraordinary things. Travelling has enriched my life and granted me a perspective on the world that I would not have had if I had never left the United States.
