Sam Rahimi
Technology Visionary, Software Engineer, and Project Manager in San Francisco, California
In September of 2016, I left the comfort and security of a blue chip on the East Coast to join a VC-funded startup in San Francisco that seemed like a "sure thing". In November, it became apparent that this "sure thing" was not meeting its revenue targets, and by December I had gotten the dreaded pink slip (although it was white, and came with a nice check to ease the pain).
Most people would have been thankful to receive a nice exit package and banked the savings; I saw it as seed money for realizing an idea I'd been kicking around for some time, and founded an AI startup within 24 hours of my departure. The startup has so far failed to bring in the big bucks, but I have learned a huge amount about AI, full stack mobile engineering, and NoSQL databases - skills that will serve me well in my next role.
I like leadership, Node.js, WebSockets, and custom hybrid apps that run on any platform - and I can even be convinced to write C# when it makes sense to do so. Oh, and ES6 is sexy as f*** - generators, iterators, and python-like array handling (not to mention mixins and a more functional syntax) have secured Javascript a long-term position as my favorite general-purpose language.
If you're looking for a creative generalist who is equally comfortable pitching clients, outlining an idea in broad strokes, and writing production-quality code, I'm your man - let's talk :)
