Samuel Wood

Sittingbourne, Kent

I have a keen interest in pursuing a career in Public Relations and journalism roles and have undertaken two unpaid positions to help me build up some of the necessary skills. I also have an interest in seeking writing and media roles, to which my skills suit well.

I have been a writer and the Sub-Editor for the international publication- ‘INTERACT Magazine for Europe’, over which I had a final say on all articles in terms of detail and message. This role also required me to proof-read articles and offer creative ideas for features, as well as writing articles. I have also written for newspapers (Sittingbourne News Extra) and magazines, and write a well-received blog (samsywoodsy.com).

I have worked as a volunteer Producer/Researcher for SFM Radio (106.9), a role in which I was responsible for communications in the office and studio. Here I would organise guests and segments, research information and news stories, write copy and information suitable for the public and radio-listeners, as well as being involved in on-air dialogue. From this role I became grounded in suitable copy for holding the public’s attention.

Through this I have become proficient in all forms of communication, as well as increasing my abilities in researching and recording data, organising information, meeting targets and handling and prioritising a large workload. All this is paired with my work-ethic and desire to provide quality and efficiency. I am very confident in my abilities with IT and social media, and have good people management skills.

In addition to this, I am now studying a diploma in Copywriting, and am expected to pass with Merit.

I am a recent graduate in American Studies (similar to a History/Journalism/English degree) from Canterbury Christ Church University, currently working as a Lesson Supervisor in a school.

As a Lesson Supervisor I develop teaching strategies and lessons so as to hold the students attention and enable learning over a huge variety of subjects. This role requires quick thinking, creativity, intense preparation and my positive, problem solving attitude are essential in this role, as well as a respect for children and requirements for learning and enthusiasm. I have also been made responsible for co-managing and writing for the school website, as well as writing a weekly newsletter and regular articles/press releases with the aim of having the school in the local press every week.
