Samuel Zurier

Since 2011, attorney Samuel Zurier has represented the citizens of Providence, Rhode Island's Ward 2 as a city councilor. In this position, Zurier focuses on numerous issues affecting his constituents, such as redistricting reform, tax penalties for moving to Providence, and quality of life. One of his earliest successes in office involved homestead exemption reform. By offering homeowners a 50 percent exemption for using their home address in Providence as their primary residence, he introduced a plan that would increase city revenue by an estimated $4 million without raising taxes; it was implemented by the city council in 2012. Moreover, Samuel Zurier serves as Chair of the Education Committee, and also serves on the the Ways and Means Committee, and the Committee on Women and Healthy Communities.

Along with his political position, Zurier works of counsel for Oliverio & Marcaccio LLP. A civil litigator, he has practiced law for nearly 25 years. The recipient of a juris doctor from Yale Law School, Samuel Zurier also holds a master of arts in politics and economics from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. Moreover, he served as an assistant attorney general in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Environmental Protection Division before entering private practice.
