Had my first hand experience with BASIC programming during class 8 in my junior school but discontinued within a year due to trouble finding a computer to work with. However after joining National Institute Of Technology in Allahabad, India as an Undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering course, I again tasted C programming in my 2nd Semester and quickly changed my branch to Information Technology to pursue a career in computers. Over the next 3 years, I had a good time working on Unix Terminals, programming in C/C++ for my CS Problem sets.

After completing my college education, I joined work at a company named MAQ Software getting good exposure to .NET programming and developing websites and webservices in a 1.5 year stint. Then I moved on to join Factset developing windows desktop applications primarily aimed at curating financial data for close to 2 years.

With growing interest in open source software development and to be part of a booming product development market in India, I went to work for Amazon as part of the Kindle EPeriodicals Team spending most of my time working in a content ingestion system which creates mobi (an Amazon proprietary file format for Kindle devices ) out of various Feed formats like Atom, HTML, rss, nitf, etc. Still far way from tasting leading open source technologies like Java/Ruby I was living with XSL which was used to perform all the data transformations in the data feed to convert to a mobi file. Well then i moved to Groupon :)
