From seven years in social media, I’ve come to realize that social media should be three things:

  1. Smart.
  2. Personal.
  3. Fun.

Without these three ingredients, a message often gets lost in the shuffle.

This theory has led me to great success in the area of social media. I’ve been fortunate enough to work for such marvelous brands as Sony Music, Sesame Street, and Dr. Oz.

So what comes next? Let me give you some homework.

Before I begin a social campaign, I always ask two important questions:

  • What is the message?
  • What is the goal?
