Amanda Sananikone

On August 11, 1997 a little girl was born. That little girl grew up, not in a far away kingdom protected by curses and dragons, but in the City of Philadelphia. She is still little, but she is no longer just a girl. She’s a sister, a student, an artist, an advocate for optimism, a dreamer, and a leader. She is me.

My interests vary; so, I am very open to trying new things. Because of my openness, I joined different clubs and programs to expose myself to different activities. This approach also applies to school subjects and college majors. I’ve been undecided for a while, but I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing. Some people would call that being indecisive; but, i’d like to say that I’m intellectually curious.

Most of my interests revolve around the act of creating something. I love the idea of creating new worlds. When I read I shape the world around me into the world of the book. I picture everything that happens and I also imagine what would happen if I were a character in the book. I become so enchanted with these worlds that the authors create that it makes me want to create a world of my own.

Creativity is the route to self discovery. I feel as though it is an important part of one’s life. It can lead to self awareness and the understanding of those around you. When you create you reach into the depths of your mind and discover what your beliefs and interests are. Putting your personality into words or pictures helps you express yourself to others and yourself. Through creativity I am steadily discovering my identity and I hope to one day help others find theirs.
