Born in Dayton, Ohio, Sandra was dubbed the "damn Yankee" of the family since all of her relatives were from Kentucky. Her love of horses as a child led to an exciting period in her life as a teenager when she showed her chestnut American Saddle Bred horse, "Extra Dividend" in Saddle Seat Equitation classes around the states of Florida, Ohio, and Kentucky. After graduation from Florida Atlantic University (where she was crowned "Miss Florida Atlantic University" in her senior year), Sandra continued with a singing career which included playing six and twelve string guitars, autoharp, Ozark mountain mouth bow, and recording both traditional and original songs. Starting with folk music and moving through various genres including jazz, pop, rock, and heavy metal, Sandra enjoyed experiencing these various expressions of music. One of her most exciting musical endeavors was performing as the lead singer of the heavy metal/hard rock band, "Lady Sabre" (check them out on YouTube). Writing all of the lyrics for the all original band, Sandra sang all lead and back up vocals on two albums, "Under a Strange Spell" and "Enchanted" which was played on radio stations throughout the USA and Europe. Modeling and acting were also included in her resume. She modeled for such companies as Levi jeans and appeared in TV commercials as well. Sandra wrote the music and lyrics and performed them on the sound tracks for two documentaries. She promoted the documentaries, one on the Lamaze method of prepared childbirth and the other on the dangers of smoking while pregnant, by appearing on TV talk shows from coast to coast as well as Mexico and Hawaii. In 1998, Sandra founded the American Hemochromatosis Society (AHS), a non profit health organization which supports victims of hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) or iron overload disease. HH is the most common genetic disease in the USA, and as a carrier of one of the mutations for this condition, Sandra continues to serve as president of AHS in memory of her mother who died from HH in 1999. (www.americanhs.org) AHS is also on Facebook. With a B.A. degree from Florida Atlantic University, Sandra also writes poetry and short stories and has had her "letters to the editor" published in many high profile magazines and newspapers around the country. In 2005, she founded "Burghard Shepherds", a pack of twelve black American Kennel Club (AKC) registered German Shepherd dogs. (www.burghardshepherds.com)
