I’m Sandra Elizabeth Diaz, a bridal designer, dressmaker, and the founder of the Sandra Elizabeth Diaz brand in Summit, New Jersey. I started my business in 2016 because I wanted to use my skills to help women feel beautiful, comfortable, and confident in the gowns they wear.

My work focuses on bridal alterations, custom fitting, and redesigning existing gowns. I enjoy looking at a dress and seeing what it can become. Sometimes the goal is to keep the original design while improving the fit. Other times, a gown needs a more significant transformation. I work carefully with the structure, fabric, and proportions of each piece so the finished garment feels balanced and personal to the woman wearing it.

One of my favorite areas of dressmaking is working with heirloom wedding gowns. Many families have a wedding dress that has been stored away for years, often because it carries memories that are too important to let go. I love finding new ways to give those gowns another life. A mother’s wedding dress might become a reception dress, a rehearsal dinner look, or a baptism gown for a new generation. There are so many possibilities when you look beyond the original purpose of the garment.

I work independently, which means I am involved in every stage of the process. I meet with clients, study the gown, consider the best design options, complete the alterations, and refine the fit myself. That hands-on process is important to me because every dress and every person is different.

I am also developing my own collection of wedding gowns under Sandra Elizabeth Diaz Bridal, with plans for the collection to be ready in fall 2027. This next step allows me to combine my experience with fit, construction, and redesign with my own ideas as a designer.

For me, dressmaking is both technical and creative. It is about understanding how a garment is built, how it should fit, and how thoughtful changes can make something feel entirely new while still respecting where it came from.
