Dr. Sandra Evarrs, PhD is a Licensed Psychologist, Clinical Professor, and Program Director of the Doctoral School Psychology Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With more than 30 years of experience in school psychology, clinical practice, and academic leadership, she has devoted her career to advancing the psychological well-being of children, adolescents, and the educators and families who support them.

Dr. Evarrs began her professional journey in Chicago, where she worked as an elementary school teacher, school psychologist, behavioral therapist, and special education administrator before transitioning to higher education. Her clinical roots are deep — she has conducted thousands of psychological evaluations, provided individual and group counseling, and delivered specialized services to children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and a wide range of neurodevelopmental disorders.

At UNC Chapel Hill, where she has served since 2004, Sandra Evarrs built and continues to direct one of the most comprehensive doctoral externship programs in the field, placing graduate students annually at premier clinical and school-based institutions throughout North Carolina. She is also a nationally certified PREPaRE Trainer in school crisis prevention and intervention and an APA Accreditation Site Visitor.

Her scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications, chapters in international handbooks, and national presentations on topics ranging from school safety to autism differential diagnosis. She consults with public school districts across several North Carolina counties and serves as a faculty advocate for LGBTQ+ students, military families, and undocumented students.

Dr. Evarrs is the recipient of the UNC Star Heel Award, the UNC 20 Year Society honor, and multiple School of Education research grants.
