Sandy Brand

I am the Library Media Specialist at Sparkman Middle School in Madison County, Alabama. We are a Title I school, with 51% of our students on free or reduced lunch. For many of our students, school is the only connection they have to anywhere outside of Madison County. I love working with my students to show them how they can access people, places, and resources around the world through both books and technology!

Previously, I was with Madison City Schools as the district Technology Coach as well as a school-level Technology Assistant. Working with both students and teachers have provided me with a unique perspective and firsthand knowledge of not only the importance of technology in education but, just as important, the need for students and teachers to have a media specialist who is accessible and knowledgeable in Web 2.0 tools.

In 2009, I received a Masters of Library and Information Studies from The University of Alabama. From before I began library school in 2007 and continuing today, I have cultivated a passion for school library media, and how media centers and media specialists can best serve their students and teachers in a digital world!
