I began my teaching career as Learning Support Teacher at Oxford Falls Grammar School, Sydney in 1994 where I had the privilege of working alongside Barbara Pheloung(www.movetolearn.com.au) to set up a movement program.I have worked extensively with students with learning difficulties individually and in small groups in both private and public schools and literacy centres ever since.

As my four children grew and became independent I began tutoring children after school from home. In 2010 as numbers increased the decision was made to move to a small office in Mona Vale. Eleven years later we moved to an office in Warriewood as we had outgrown our small office space. In 2022 we won The Northern Beaches Local Business Award and in 2023 after relocating to the beautiful Port Stephens area I made the decision to sell Hands up for One on One Tuition. I am once again seeing children one on one from my home and have changed my name to Sandy's 1 on 1 Tuition.

I am passionate about helping children become successful learners and specialise in helping children acquire the skills they need to help them to become ready to learn. I believe in the importance of looking at the whole child.

Over the years I have attended and continue to attend countless training seminars, meetings and conferences on the topics of Teaching and Learning Difficulties. I have the necessary experience, expertise and understanding to ensure that I meet the needs of the children in my care.

I work with Pre-schoolers to prepare them for a successful start at school, using the Little Learners Love Literacy Program, a systematic and engaging program with focused explicit lessons, games, crafts, music, puppets, drawing and much more. Kindergarten to year 6 and High School students up to year 8.

I believe that children's best learning is achieved when they are taught systematically and explicitly and when they are having fun and feel confident. Building a child's self esteem is an essential component as is incorporating games and activities that ensure laughter, especially at the end of each lesson.
