I'm a Master's candidate, aiming to upgrade to a Doctorate during the year. With a BA (Hons), and a Master of Global Diplomacy already under my belt, my aim is to extend my teaching experience and become a lecturer. In this last degree, I explored the claim to sovereignty of the Orania Movement in South Africa. I am also interested in the impact of state-sponsored birth control programmes on Muslim women in diaspora.
The proposal at hand explores the issue of sovereignty and statehood for sinking states, and how the norms of this nuanced and dynamic status ought to adjust to the new reality of disappearing territory. Territory has always been a reliable, tangible constant, and the grand narrative of sovereignty and the attendant international laws and norms simply do not cater for its loss. The project will address two case studies - the Solomon Islands and Kiribati.
I currently work with children as an after school Maths and English tutor. I am a firm believer in the healing properties of chocolate and coffee, and I share my home with two cats.
