Steel Pipe flange varieties

Metal flanges are manufactured as per ASME B16.5. These flanges are known as ANSI Flanges.

There are six most typically used flanges, also called ANSI flange, ASME B16.5 Flange.

Slip-On Forged Flange: A slip-on flange is slightly larger in diameter than the pipe, enabling the flange to “slip on” into the pipe. This creates a good fit with the pipe. Compared to alternative flanges, the slip-on is slightly thinner and has a shorter lifespan than other flanges, however, they’re dependable and price effective.

Threaded Flange: Threaded flanges are almost like slip-on flanges. They slide over a pipe, however, no attachment is needed. This is often the most important advantage of threaded flanges. They’re usually used for smaller pipes and in areas wherever attachment would be dangerous. Because there’s no attachment, the threaded flange is often utilized in low-pressure systems.

SW Forged Flange: The socket-weld flange is employed in smaller-sized, high-pressure pipe systems. These flanges are inserted into the pipe and connected with a fillet weld that allows a much better gas flow through the pipe.
