Sara Okamoto

Frankfurt, Germany

Since making my concerto debut at the age of 11 in the United States with the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra in Michigan, I have had countless solo and chamber music performances. Notable venues include the Hiroshima Gewandhall, Lincoln Center Kaplan Penthouse, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Recital Hall, and the HR Sendesaal in Frankfurt, Germany. I have also been featured as a soloist with the Far Rockaway Symphony Orchestra, and has been a guest artist with the New York Philharmonic members in their chamber music series. Of the latter, the New York Sun praised: "...Okamoto showed a limpid technique...she appeared an unusually self-possessed musician." In the spring of 2006, I gave my solo debut concert at Carnegie Hall presented by Artists International.

An avid proponent of new music, I have performed at the Look and Listen Festival in New York, and have presented compositions by up-and-coming composers such as Adam Silverman, Cyrill Schurch, James Mattheson, Jonathan Pieslak, Martin Schmalz, Susanne Farrin, and Theodor Koehler. Prior to moving to Frankfurt from New York City, I was also a member of Basho, an experimental group consisting of a traditional piano trio with a laptop artist.

I studied at Michigan State University, New England Conservatory, and Yale University, under the tutelage of Deborah Moriart, Patricia Zander, Boris Berman, Arie Vardi, and Alison Dean.
