Sara Bastai

Hi! My name is Sara Bastai, I’m 20 years old and I’m in the last year of my bachelor’s degree in graphic design. I’m currently living in Barcelona, doing my Erasmus exchange for a full year, but I’m originally from Porto, Portugal. I did my GCSEs in a Artistic School, where I took on the communication design course, and then a specialization in graphic design. In this school I developed my skills in printing techniques and led me to do an Internship, in the Studio Andrew Howard, for 3 months. For my bachelor’s degree I joined the university Esad, also in Porto. Since I’m there I bloomed my passion for typography and for editorial projects. In my work I explore the use of photography, collages, and the limits of typography, mostly. I have been also creating graphic content for music, like albums and posters, projects for my own, and I currently joined “Comunidade Cultura e Arte” (a community that disseminates and promotes culture and art in Portugal) which will lead me to big projects.

As a graphic designer I look at characters as forms. Forms that we can explore their boundaries to achieve a decontextualization and create visuals compositions. I find fascinating having the capacity to transmit visual sensations through graphic design.
