Sara Canonici - Photographer and Visual Designer - Cinque Terre & Florence

Born in La Spezia, Italy, on 24 February 2000, Sara Canonici is an Italian photographer, visual designer, educator, and contemporary artist. She works both in Italy and internationally, with particular experience across Liguria, the Cinque Terre, and Tuscany, collaborating with Italian and international clients in portrait photography, tourism, luxury hospitality, food, personal branding, and visual communication.

From an early age, she developed a deep interest in art and music, two elements that continue to shape her visual language. Growing up surrounded by art documentaries and The Beatles' records, she gradually expanded her influences through artists such as Franco Battiato, Riccardo Cocciante, and Ivan Graziani, finding in music a constant source of narrative and emotional inspiration.

She discovered photography at the age of thirteen through the work of American photographer Annie Leibovitz. Fascinated by photography's ability to tell stories and reveal people's identities, she transformed that passion into a lifelong artistic and professional pursuit.

After graduating in Graphic Design and Communication, she earned a degree in Graphic & Web Design from Poliarte Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ancona. During the first COVID-19 lockdown, she created Quarantine Days: My Point of View, a conceptual photographic project that marked the beginning of her artistic research into identity, memory, and the perception of reality.

In 2022, she became the youngest artist selected for the Premio Marche – Biennale d'Arte Contemporanea, held at the Ducal Palace in Urbino. In 2024, she was commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Tourism to produce landscape photography for the national tourism platform Italia.it, contributing to the promotion of the cultural and natural heritage of Liguria and Tuscany.

Alongside her artistic research, she has developed a professional career that combines photography, design, and visual communication. She specializes in portrait photography and visual design, working primarily throughout the Cinque Terre, Florence, Liguria, and Tuscany.

Every photographic project begins with a careful process of observation and planning. Her approach places people and places at the center, valuing listening, empathy, and authenticity to create timeless, elegant imagery capable of expressing identity, emotion, and meaningful stories.

Alongside photography, she designs visual identities, websites, editorial content, and communication strategies for companies, professionals, chefs, luxury villas, hospitality businesses, and tourism brands. She is also an educator in Photography, Adobe Lightroom, Graphic Design, and Visual Design, mentoring students and professionals through personalized training programs in both Italian and English.

Throughout her career, she has collaborated with Italian and international organizations and is a Contributor to Unsplash+, one of the world's leading photography platforms.

In parallel with her professional practice, she is committed to promoting photographic culture through editorial content that connects photography with art, music, architecture, and design, encouraging a deeper reflection on observation, identity, and authenticity in visual storytelling.

Today, she continues to work internationally as a photographer, visual designer, and educator. Her work is distinguished by an approach that integrates creative direction, visual culture, artistic sensitivity, and empathy, placing human relationships and photography's ability to reveal what lies beyond appearances at the heart of every project.

For Sara Canonici, photography is not simply a form of visual expression, but a powerful tool for observation, connection, and the appreciation of people, culture, and places.
