Sara Gordon
learning assistant in Blacksburg, Virginia
Hello! I'm currently a sophomore at Virginia Tech, majoring in multimedia journalism with a minor in APEQ (animal science with an equine emphasis). I'm currently a rider of the VT Hunter Team and a member of the Equestrian Club on campus.
I'm employed as a learning assistant for a senior level engineering class here at school, where I am in charge of grading communication assignments for nearly 40 students. When I'm home, I work at Warwick Equine Services LLC at Hickory Ridge Farm in Highland, MD as an equine caretaker. However, this past summer I spent my time as an editorial intern for The Equiery magazine, Maryland's largest equine publication.
Although my major/minor combination may seem odd, my goal is to combine my passions for journalism and horses into one career in the thoroughbred industry's media field. I plan to be a magazine writer, or eventually an editor, with the ability to combine my interests in photography and social media as well. Some of the current racing magazines I favor include Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred and The Bloodhorse.
Outside of school and work, I'm just your average horse girl. Back home, I'm lucky enough to have three horses of my own, along with a few dogs, cats, and chickens. I enjoy spending time outside, especially with my animals, and photographing my experiences along the way.
