The Acupuncturist's Wife

Mesa, AZ

My husband and I met 11 years, three months and five days ago (give or take). I had just finished massage therapy school and was starting my new career, a new life, in fact, as I had just ended a long term relationship and not for the first time, was completely lost.

Massage school introduced a whole new thought provoking world to me; one that united mind, body and spirit and opened my eyes to a different sense of self. At the same time, it clashed with the belief system I had created in my short life time. It didn't send me reeling necessarily, but it definitely made me question everything.

My husband wasn't an Acupuncturist at the time we met. He was a civil engineer working at a phone company as a trouble technician. He thought I was a little eccentric and lost and perhaps I was but aren't we all, even if just a little bit?

Several failed jobs later, I found a pretty good gig at a resort and was doing well. B, my darling, was injured during one of his martial arts classes during sparring or who knows what and saw an acupunturist for his first time. And need I saw, it was all over from there. He was enrolled in school months later, we were engaged and married while he was in school. And I was pregnant with our oldest, during school. He missed his graduation ceremony because our daughter decided to wait until almost 42 weeks along to join us in this beautiful world.

We've been called hippies and crunchy but we weren't always that way, nor are we always that way now. But we do our best without trying to stress about it too much. This is our journey and my life as an acupuncturist's wife.
