Sara Brown

Washington, DC

My life began in Oklahoma where I was born the older twin of my sister, Lauriel. After living briefly in Oklahoma and Maine where my father was stationed in the Air Force, my parents divorced and I moved with my mom and siblings to Bellevue, Nebraska. I lived in Bellevue from 1990 through 2001 when I moved to Kearney, Nebraska to attend college at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where I double-majored in English and Political Science. During college, I pledged the Chi Omega sorority, served in Student Government, became a Resident Advisor, and spent a summer teaching English in rural China. After interning on Capitol Hill in 2006, I took a job in Lincoln, Nebraska after graduation working for then-U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel. I moved back to DC in 2008 and worked for now former U.S. Senator Jim Webb full-time while earning my Masters in Public Administration. I ran my first marathon in 2011 and have since completed three marathons and four half-marathons. In my spare time, I like to travel as much as I can, crochet, read travel essays, cook and bake, and take classes at my gym.
