Sara Fouse
Juneau, AK
I landed in the most phenomenal place on earth, Juneau, Alaska! A one way ticket, a backpack and a university acceptance letter in hand brought me here from the hot dry deserts of Nevada. Now, 4 years later, I am finishing up my senior year in college pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Mathematics. Who knew that I would be the first in my immediate family and first of the Fouses to graduate college!?
I have wanted nothing more in my life than to become a biologist. Working in the field collecting data and directly working with different organisms of the sea has been a dream of mine. It was during the summer of 2012 that I landed my first lab job. Not only do I get to do my part in the care of the great King Crab, both red and blue, but I play a part in the monitoring of the toxin that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning. Though these are small lab tasks, I contribute to a bigger picture.
In my recent years of study, I have chosen the conservation biology route as a career path. I do not want to rant about what we are doing to our oceans and the organisms that reside within. I want to focus on being a part of the change and recovery effort that will help the restoration of our oceans so the future generations can fall in love with its beauty as me and many others have done.
