I am a poet, writer, and academic. I teach English Literature at the University of Cambridge, where I am a Fellow of Downing College. My interests range from poetry, fiction, film, tv, and drama to music, travel, art, and food. I am particularly interested in twentieth-century and contemporary poetry, modernism, metaphor, narrative in film and prose fiction, nature-writing, vibrant materialism, and ecopoetics, the pelagic imaginary, the energy unconscious, trauma, the uncanny, literary self-conception, originality, and allusion.

In addition to my teaching at Cambridge I have given lectures and talks in the UK, US, Australia, and Italy, and have appeared on Sky Arts.
