I am a professional counselor, licensed by the State of Maryland, and I have a broad range of experience. For eight years, I have provided spiritual and emotional support to patients and their loved ones as a chaplain in home hospice. Being with people in their final weeks, months, and days highlights what truly matters: often, it's our relationships, what we have made of our lives, and what helps us make sense of the world. I've worked with people of diverse spiritual traditions and practices, socioeconomic circumstances, and racial and ethnic backgrounds; people who are gay and straight, old and young. Prior to my work as a chaplain, I was a parish minister for six years. Additionally, I have done volunteer work in coal mining towns of Appalachia and with homeless people in inner-city Atlanta. I have managed a coffee shop. I have taught middle schoolers and mentored teens. I have found that what is most meaningful to me is to be with people in the midst of their lives, particularly where there is the greatest need.
I completed two years of clinical training as a counselor at agencies in Baltimore. I provided grief counseling at Gilchrist Hospice Care, and substance abuse counseling at Epoch Counseling. Also, I completed a year of clinical training as a chaplain at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
I am over 40, and I am single. I enjoy hiking and singing, my two delightful cats, my extended family and family of friends. I am a graduate of the College of William and Mary (Virginia), Columbia Theological Seminary (Georgia), and Loyola University of Maryland.
