Sarah Jamal

My name is Sarah Jamal and I am a 20 year old from Hamilton, ON. I’m studying International Development (INDEV) with an option in Business Administration at the University of Waterloo (UW). Ever since I was a kid, I’d constantly be asking questions- that hasn’t changed. And this blog is my attempt to answer those questions, create discussion, and raise awareness. I am a food enthusiast and have a strong passion for the environment as I attempt to understand the complexity of our world and how I fit in it. My interest in development studies began at a young age through conversations with my grandparents and parents. Being a 1st generation Canadian and hearing about my family’s history from East Africa to Canada really made me think about how millions of people do not have the opportunity to leave their war-ridden or corrupt country. As banal as it sounds, I want to make a difference in the world and leave it a better place than it was when I entered it. And this is exactly why I enrolled in the INDEV program at UW. Three years of theory and training and 8 months of practise in a developing country, utilizing the instruments in our tool kit to make a positive impact, be inspired, and inspire others.
