Sarah Reichert

Sarah Reichert is an aspiring American Sign Language interpreter for hearing-impaired individuals.

Currently, Sarah is a senior at the University of Florida finishing her Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunication-News with an outside concentration in Disability Studies. Upon graduation in May, Sarah will continue her education at the University of North Florida in their American Sign Language Community Interpreting program.

Sarah is a recipient of the American Sign Language Honor Society Award in recognition of her dedication and advocacy for the Deaf Community, American Sign Language and Deaf Culture. Sarah has had the opportunity to sign the National Anthem and Alma Mater at UF Commencement Ceremonies, as well as at UF gymnastics meets, baseball and basketball games. Sarah has also performed at the First Annual Florida Intercollegiate ASL Idol as an Executive Board Officer of the UF American Sign Language club, Signing Gators. She has spent the last year as a teaching assistant for UF ASL and Disability Studies classes where she educates her peers on the Deaf community and culture.

Sarah hopes to use her background in telecommunication to continue advocating for the Deaf community. Her news report on Gainesville’s fundraising attempts to build a Deaf school in Qalqilya, Palestine was broadcasted locally and received international attention from Palestinian officials.

Sarah also hopes to incorporate her love for music as an ASL interpreter. Sarah has been playing flute for the past eleven years and piccolo for the last four. While earning her degree, Sarah marched as a piccolo player in UF’s Gator Marching Band in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, as well as in front of Buckingham Palace for the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Ultimately, Sarah recognizes that her aspiration to be a nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter is a gift from the Lord. She hopes to use this gift for His glory by one day specializing in religious musical interpreting.
