Sarah Robinson
Wakefield
An recent Animal Behaviour Masters graduate, who graduated from the University of Sheffield with a high 2:1 in July 2013. I am currently looking for a scientific graduate job.
I have wide ranging behavioural and physiological research experience in both a laboratory and a field setting, working on invertebrates and vertebrates, and in many areas of behavioural ecology. Past research projects have involved testing physiological, behavioural, immune and life history responses in the mealworm beetle Tenebrio molitor, when exposed to a rat predator scent; and field work in the South East Asian island of Borneo testing the effect of caterpillar crypsis on the rate of predation. My fourth year project tested the effect of colour on the behaviour, and physiology of both adult and juvenile zebrafish. I am hoping to have this original research published.
I also have a large amount of experience dealing with the general public, mainly through my gap year retail experience but also throughout my voluntary work experience at both Harewood House Bird Garden, and the Discovery Centre.
My most recent role as a Local / Commuter Student Mentor also demonstrates my communication and organisation skills. I was part of the support network for commuter first year students at the University, and the job involved providing emotional and practical support, as well as organising events throughout the academic year to help the students settle in.
Additionally, I am a keen fund-raiser and have recently raised almost £3800 for Macmillan Cancer Support by completing a 4 day high altitude trek in Peru during September 2011 in memory of my dad.
