Past- It was working as a market research assistant for the campus resident services at Indiana University that sparked my career and passion for marketing. Before graduating with a degree in journalism, I was fortunate enough to intern at Emmis Communications where I ended up with the Morning Mess Radio Show for nearly two years. After that, I interned for a very short time with Nuvo Newsweekly before starting full-time as an Advertising Account Executive. I then went on to work in higher education where I furthered my own professional development with a Masters degree in management/marketing emphasis.
Present- I was recruited into the nonprofit scene after a few years in corporate higher education. I had the opportunity to take my knowledge from launching an alumni association (taking the idea and leading not only the launch itself, but implementation of a new website, social media plan and marketing strategy) to then apply what I knew to the Indiana Society of Association Executives. Here, I work to grow social media engagement and position the association as a content leader in the industry. I concentrate closely on all communications, membership, as well as marketing and promotions for 20+ events a year. I recently finished a complete website re-design and started a new content marketing committee for 2013.
Future- I'd like to say that my future is constant. As long as you have passion for what you do, your career will constantly move you forward as a professional. I am currently looking into options for a certification to pursue in the areas of new media and/or marketing. I will also continue to serve on the Indy Social Media (IndySM) Executive Board as well as volunteer for the Indy AMA chapter. I will also maintain my love for local beer, running and the great city of Indianapolis. My next venture will be crossfit.
