Sara Steffens
I began my career as a newspaper journalist, covering government meetings, then writing features, and eventually following interesting people around high schools and homeless shelters.
A big part of me will always miss life in the newsroom.
But these days I'm a union gal (and if you want to organize your workplace, I'm so there!) So I still hold by that old journalist's motto, "Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable." Only now I get to march around at protests, too.
I share time between two parts of the same union, The Newspaper Guild and CWA District 9, which represents workers throughout California, Nevada and Hawaii.
Meanwhile, my husband and I are raising three fantastic, exhausting little girls, all 5 and younger... and dreaming of life beyond diapers.
