The Amphitheater was dreamed up in the 1960s as a means to support the New York Philharmonic and the New York City Ballet. It began as a simple question posed by New York newspaperman Duane Le Fleche. He noted that the reservation in Saratoga Springs would make a nice location for those companies needing summer residency.
The idea took off, and in no time there was community-wide support. Ground was broken in 1964, and the amphitheater was brought to life, surrounded by the natural land and lush pines of Saratoga Spa State Park. It is now host to the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York City Ballet.
The Saratoga Performing Arts Center is one of New Yorks biggest outdoor amphitheaters, with a huge 25,000 seating capacity. Hosting some of the biggest artists in the world, the venue pulls in crowds from all over New York. SPAC is home to the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra every summer.
