Saray Amundson

Helena

Saray Amundson is a 2013 graduate of Carroll College in Helena, MT where she obtained a bachelor degree in Community Health. Saray also received a bachelor degree in Health Science with a major in Nutrition and Dietetics from Atlantico University in Barranquilla, Colombia in 2011. She is fluent in Spanish and English. As a volunteer, she has worked collaboratively with local agencies that provide health and nutritional guidance to low income individuals and families in Helena, Montana. Previously, Saray served as a public health nutritionist for the Secretary of Public Health of Puerto Colombia and Atlantico University. She has a wide range of experience working as a health educator with disadvantaged individuals in high poverty areas, particularly women and children. During 2013, Saray has been working as Youth Ambassador for Montana No Kid Hungry in Helena, Montana. She has served as an advocate and has developed partnerships to help to create a hunger free community.

In addition, she provided nutritional guidance to low income individuals and families in Helena through the program Cooking Matters at the Store. Through this public presentation, Saray taught families how to purchase the most nutritious foods without breaking their food budget by comparing unit prices and food labels, identifying whole grain foods and purchasing fruits and vegetables on a tight budget.

Recently, Saray received a recognition and appreciation letter from the Governor of the State of Montana, Steve Bullock, for her direct support to the Summer Meal Program sites. In this capacity she assisted with participation, organized activities to ensure greater attendance, helped build volunteer networks, and increased awareness through marketing and promotions.

In her time away from work, Saray enjoys traveling, spending time with family, participating in outdoor activities, and meringue and salsa dancing with her husband, Erik; and her dog, Mambo. Saray loves to cook typical Colombian food, particularly specialties like coconut rice, fried plantains stuffed with tuna, and ajiaco (soup).
