“A good newspaper, I suppose, is a nation talking to itself.” -Arthur Miller

Following service in the Civil War and attempts to farm swampland in Livingston County, Illinois, the Sarvis family began migrating to Hyde County, South Dakota in 1883. Anton and Fredericka Orth immigrated from Russia to Yankton in the Dakota Territory, prior to 1880, before their family began to grow and spread. The history of South Dakota, and many of its communities, is intertwined with my own and I believe it should be saved for our future generations. I spent a decade with the Huron Plainsman, serving as an advertising and marketing representative, while assisting in circulation, creative, the print shop, and publishing. I took on the role of General Manager under the stewardship of long-time publisher, Mark Davis, before being promoted to Group Publisher of four South Dakota papers. As Group Publisher, my goal is to record, distribute, and archive the history of each community while providing relevant and local information to their residents.
