Savannah Sanchez is a 17 year old professional freelance bassist and a developing artist who has an unusual obsession with hipster coffee shops.

If passion is the soul of the artist, then inspiration is her muse.

Inspiration is the way we think, how we understand our craft.I’ve been blessed to have grown as a musician through the inspiration of great people around me, even from my first days playing before my church youth group. I grew up in a musical family; my father was and still is my primary inspiration. He allowed me to revel in different genres of music and master musicians—people who had the skill to be absolutely free with their instruments, making them do anything they desired. Vocally, Cathy Spurr, my first vocal coach, helped me tremendously and even gave me the opportunity to record for the Gospel Light album in 2010. In honing my bass skills, I studied under Fernando Jones with the Blue Kids of America out of Columbia College in Chicago. Now, at 16 years old, I continue to sharpen my skills performing with various solo artists performing throughout the Southland.

Recently, I’ve immersed myself in songwriting. I try to find new ways to capture that magical essence of music, the essence that has inspired me these past few years. I find the focus of writing interesting and calming, and my mind seems to race and scatter about wherever they find an interesting place to explore. It is seemingly easy, but I find it also one of the most difficult things to be truly good at. Never the less, it is by far one of the most enjoyable challenges I’ve come up against, even on those nights where I sit utterly frustrated and confused at the lyric that refuses to be captured. I work at it, because it’s worth it. To think that I can perform something new, something that no one has heard before is exciting. And if I’m truly lucky, perhaps someone else will find inspiration there, too.
